ARTHUR
Arthur is the king, the main character of the literary cycle which bears its name. It is also the king of Brittany who will come back one day, on his red horse, to free his country. And it is also a statue created by Robert Gourlaouen (3.4 meters high, made of Lebanese cedar). Its pedestal claims its raison d’être: love, hope and freedom.
Robert GOURLAOUEN (1929-2001)
Born and buried in Landerneau (Brittany), a restaurant manager, a baker, a craftsman, a poet, and a musician, he was also a sculptor. His Piéta and his Christ are famous from Brittany to the Kerguelen Islands, as well as in Africa. He died of a brain clot as he was starting to sculpt a six-meter-high cut length of a tree trunk with a chain saw, a Christ-to-be for the Vatican.
